Gary Ames

Gary Howard Ames, 76, passed away peacefully in Concord on Thursday, January 27th, 2022.

Gary was born in Endicott, New York on March 13th, 1945 to the late Howard Charles Ames and Hazel Ada Ames of Apalachin, NY.  Gary was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 51 years, Mary Alice Ames.  He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Frances Ames, Barney Ames, Lester Carman and 1 sister Harriet Storozow.

Gary is survived by his 3 children; Tami Sue Carr (Bruce) of Locust, NC., Gary Howard Ames (Jennifer) of Locust, NC., Annemarie McWaters (Andy) of Mooresville, NC.  He was also blessed with 11 grandchildren; Amanda Maner (Ted), Steven Carr (Leah), Abigail Botero (Gabriel), Alli Plyler (Jake), John Carr, Jacob McWaters, Joseph Ames, Isaac McWaters, Olivia McWaters, Matthew McWaters, and Maggie McWaters.  He also had 1 great-grandchild; Maverick Dill.  Gary is survived by 1 sister; Beulah O’Connell of Apalachin, New York.

Gary was known for being a hard worker and the love he had for his bride, “Maudie”.  He loved to hunt in his younger days and enjoyed fishing at the beach.  Gary was an avid gardener, a fan of NASCAR, and his “marble board game”.

Gary had many careers that he enjoyed.  He was a dairy farmer with his father for many years.  He also worked in construction and operated heavy equipment.  He retired as a trailer mechanic.  Gary. Daddy. Grandpa.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 10 am - 11:30 am on Saturday, February 5th 2022 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord.  A graveside service officiated by Rev William Nix will follow at 12:00 PM on February 5th at Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery, 601 Mt. Olivet Rd. Kannapolis, NC.
