Gary Edward Sellers

Gary Edward Sellers, 71, of Concord, passed away at Atrium Health Cabarrus on Sunday, December 8, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Mr. Sellers was born May 27, 1953 in Bishop's Stortford, England to the late Charles Edward Sellers and the late Sheilah Sellers. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Patsy Hill Sellers; daughter, Amanda (Edward) Harper of Concord, NC; grandsons, Patrick and Nathan Harper; brothers, Lindsay (Debbie) Sellers of Mt. Ulla, NC and Dean (Shelia) Sellers of Concord, NC along with sister, Sharon (Alan) Allison of Concord, NC and several nieces and nephews.

A native of England, Gary and his family relocated to Concord, NC when he was 3 years old.

He is a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School, class of 1971.

In his 41 year career in Nursing, Gary worked as a nursing assistant at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital while earning his Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1978 where he was a charter member of Sigma Theta Tau. After nursing certification he worked as an Emergency Room Nurse, Director of Nursing, Assistant Vice President of Nursing while earning his Masters of Public Administration from UNCC in 1995. Gary was also Third Shift Nursing Supervisor, Manager of Dialysis and Internal Pulmonary Unit, and Third Shift Administrative Supervisor and Medical Examiner until retirement in 2015 after a 41 year career in nursing.

Gary was a life-long lover of music with a vast collection of vinyl records, CDs, and other mediums. He loved attending live music performances. He loved being a "band dad" for Amanda while in marching band at Concord High School and UNC Chapel Hill Marching Tar Heels. He was a big UNC-Chapel Hill fan and loved watching the Tar Heels basketball and football team. Gary also loved history and collecting Civil War memorabilia. His biggest joy in retirement was being "Boppa" and spending time with his grandsons, Patrick and Nathan.

At Gary's request, the family will only receive friends from 2:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord located at 460 Branchview Dr. NE, Concord, NC 28025.
