Gaye Coley

Gaye Frances Shoe Coley passed away on December 28, 2020 at home in Harrisburg.  Born in Concord, she was a daughter of the late Willie James Shoe and Ethel Mae Bost and the wife of William “Bill” F. Coley, with whom she shared more than sixty-two years of devoted marriage.

She graduated from Hartsell High School in 1958 and worked at Allstate Insurance Company in Charlotte until retirement.  She then served for a few years as a substitute teacher in the Cabarrus County school system.  Gaye and Bill enjoyed summer trips to the beach and cruises as well as travel with members of their family to other countries including several in Europe and China.  These and other family gatherings, especially when children were present, were a source of great enjoyment to her.  A favorite activity was watching birds from her window.  She also had a tender spot for small animals, having adopted several rescue dogs over the years.  She was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church of Concord.

Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Hargett and Tonda Overcash, both of Concord, four grandchildren, Brandon Furr of Houston, Texas, Bryan Furr of Concord, Brittany Urbina of Concord, and Josh Overcash of Charlotte.  Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Elena Furr and Clarice Furr of Houston, and Madelyn Furr of Concord. Three siblings, Jane Harrington, Linda McGinnis and Gary “Buster” Shoe also survive.  She was preceded in death by sisters Doris E. Hartsell and Joyce A. Clark.

There will be a drop-in to pay respects from 11:00 to 12:30 p. m. on Sunday, January 3, followed by the funeral at 1:00 p.m. and a grave-side service at Carolina Memorial Park.
