Mr. GC Helms, 89, of 71 Tulip Avenue, Concord passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010 at Universal Healthcare in Concord. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord on Sunday from 2:00-3:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at Hartsell funeral Home Chapel on Sunday at 4:00 pm with the Rev. Roger Byrd officiating. Burial will follow at Howell Baptist Church Cemetery in Concord. Born on July 24, 1920 in Union County to the late Grover Cleveland Helms and Martha Eudy Helms. GC was a member of First Advent Christian church where he faithfully attended until he became disabled. He was a truck driver for A.C. Widenhouse for forty years. After retiring from A.C. Widenhouse he was employed by Dovers Supermarket and Bi-Lo grocery store. GC was a quiet, gentle and caring man. He was a good friend to all who knew him and enjoyed helping people in need. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. GC passed away only eleven days before his 70th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Isabell Vanderburg, of the home, sons Phil Helms and wife Karen of Concord and Alan Helms and wife Frances also of Concord, sisters, Dartha "Dot" Vanderburg and Veda Medlin, both of Concord, grandchildren, Scott and wife Jodi Helms, Keith and wife Karen Helms, and Ashleigh Helms, great-grandchildren, Grant, Holly, Sawyer, and Claire Helms. Memorials may be made to Howell Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3800 Baptist Lane, Concord, NC 28025. Hartsell Funeral Home Concord is serving the Helms family.
