S. Gene Drye, 88 years of age, of Oakboro, passed away Friday, October 9, 2015 at N. C. State Veterans Home in Salisbury.
Gene was born July 18, 1927 in Stanly County to the late Rufus and Bedie Ann Smith Drye. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Doris Taylor Drye on February 24, 2015; brothers, Marcus, Vann, Spurgeon, and Jay Drye; sisters, Arlene Tucker, Pauline Hathcock, and Alma Wadkins.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Philadelphia Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Dwight Mabry. The burial will be in the church cemetery, with military honors by the Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12.
He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Little and husband, Bob; son, Tony Gene Drye and wife, Cynthia, all of Oakboro; grandson, Phillip Tony Drye and wife Tracey of Midland; great-grandchildren, Julia and Jackson Drye of Midland.
Gene was a retired employee of Loomis Fargo Company and served in the U.S. Navy.
