George Franklin "Ted" Blackwelder, 97, of Concord, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021.
Ted was born May 3, 1923 in Cabarrus County to the late George Lee Blackwelder and the late Alice Wade Blackwelder. Ted was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth B. Blackwelder; brother, Arthur Lee Blackwelder; sisters, Grace Sechler and Johnsie McGee; and great-grandson, Carter Todd Whitson.
Ted was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. He was a loving father and grandfather. Ted enjoyed farming, gardening and traveling in his motorhome, especially spring training in Florida.
Ted will lie in state on Sunday, January 31, 2021, from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, officiated by Rev. Perry Hines.
Survivors include his son, Todd W. Blackwelder (Joyce) of Asheboro; daughter, Terri B. Killian (Jim) of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Jacob Blackwelder (Meagan) of Moab, UT; Travis Blackwelder (Carlotta) of Aiken, SC; Samantha Whitson (Chad) of Asheboro; Justin Davis (Elizabeth) of Randleman;10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
