George Carter

May 15, 1955 — May 13, 2013

George Michael Carter, 57, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013 at his residence in Rockwell. "Mike" was born in Concord on May 15, 1955, to Doris Earnhardt Carter and the late Johnnie Lee Carter. He was not a tall man, but he had the biggest heart of anybody around. His father said he was the "biggest little man he had ever known." And he was without a doubt the best Daddy that two girls could ask for. He was never too busy to pitch a tent, make Play-Doh alligators or fill up the backyard pool. Monopoly games could go on into the late night hours. He was an amazing mechanic, earning him the nickname "Boy Wonder" from a very close friend, Clyde Poteat, at an early age. Clyde also introduced him to his favorite sandwich, a "What-A-Burger". Mike began his working career driving a tractor trailer for Harris Teeter. He continued this until 1980 when he opened "Mike's Auto Service." This business allowed him to not only provide a comfortable home for his family but also to help others. He began working for his most recent employer, US Airways, in 1989 - a job he enjoyed and was very proud of. His work ethic was unmatched. He respected learning and worked hard to become an aircraft mechanic. He loved airplanes and obtained his Private Pilot's License. Mike's greatest source of joy were his 5 grandchildren: Kendall, Elisabeth and Madison Pless, and Jacey and Grayson Eudy. He especially loved teaching them about airplanes and pocket knives. Remember: if you know how many you have, you don't have enough. The family will receive friends Monday, May 20, 2013 from 4 to 6pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord for a celebration of his life. A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 6:00pm. Mike is survived by his: wife, Cynthia Carter of China Grove; daughters, Sara Pless and her husband Frank of Concord; Lisa Eudy and her husband Michael of Rockwell; mother, Doris Earnhardt Carter of Rockwell; sister, Dianne Carter Marze and her husband Roy of Kannapolis; brother, Johnnie Darryl Carter and his wife Karen of Concord and a number of nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.jdrf.org Hartsell Funeral Home is serving the Carter family.
