George Hampton Efird, Sr. 92 years of age, of Memphis, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015, at his home in Memphis, TN.
Mr. Efird was born February 5, 1923 in Stanly County to the late Walter Guy Efird and the late Wilhelmina Jacobena Hohenstatt Efird.
He was also preceded in death by his best friend and wife of over 58 years, Margaret Lucille Palmer Efird, in 2004; two sons, William "Bill" Efird and Dr. Watt Efird.
Mr. Efird was devoted to his family and a faithful member of Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Don Phillips. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, 1425 East Main Street, Albemarle.
Survivors include one son, George Hampton Efird, Jr. and wife, Lynn of Charlotte; one granddaughter and six grandsons; three great-grandchildren; and his devoted caregiver, Melissa.
A veteran of the US Army and a graduate of Albemarle High School, George attended Duke University and retired from General Electric.
