George Harwood

George Emsley Harwood, 73 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle.

George was born May 20, 1941 in Stanly County to the late Theodore VanBuren Harwood and the late Esther Lucille Moose Harwood.

George was the owner of Medical Pharmacy where he filled prescriptions and made many friends for over 36 years, retiring in 2006. He was also a faithful member, past deacon, and choir member of First Baptist Church of Albemarle.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Friday at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Albemarle, officiated by Rev. Harold McDonald and Dr. Andy Jung. He will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. The burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy Jo Ivester Harwood of Albemarle; daughter, Julie Mitchell and husband Paul of Simpsonville, SC; son, Greg Harwood and wife Zetty of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Hannah Mitchell and Sarah Mitchell, both of Simpsonville; sister, Edith H. Smitherman and husband Jerry of Charlotte; nephews, David Smitherman of Winston-Salem, and Mark Smitherman of Charlotte.
