George Brinklin Hinson, 72, Concord, NC, formerly of Wadesboro, NC, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family and friends on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. George was born August 29, 1937 in Anson County. He was the son of the late William B. and Lilly Bell Hinson. He worked 30 years for the state of North Carolina, and retired from the North Carolina Department of Labor in 1999 as Area Director. After retirement, George enjoyed spending time with family, restoring classic Mustangs, and working on various projects at their beach house at Sunset Beach. George was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, affectionately known as Poppy. He is survived by his loving wife Kathy Hinson; daughter Gwen (Ronnie) Traywick of Marshville; sons Brian (Kelly) Penninger of Davidson, Chris Penninger of Concord, Steve Penninger of Oak Island; grandchildren Adam and Amanda Traywick, Anna and Cassidy Penninger, Jeremy and Stephanie Penninger; great granddaughter Emily; and sister Flora Lee Griffin of Monroe. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord, NC on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 12:30 until 2:00 pm. A memorial service to celebrate the life of George will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel. The family is forever grateful for all the prayers and comforting gestures received over the past six months. We especially appreciate our dear neighbors Ava and Dana for all their help and support.
