George Masters

George R. Masters, 87, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, in Concord. George was born December 2, 1924 in Pickens County, S.C. He is the son of George Dewey Masters and Ina Cannon Masters. George graduated from Tamassee South Carolina DAR School. He also graduated from the Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, Indiana as an electrical engineer. George was registered as a professional engineer in North and South Carolina. George also served our country in the Navy in World War II. His tours included the European and Pacific theaters. After his time in the Navy, George started his career with Duke Power in 1949. He worked there until 1984, when he retired. George and his wife, Dorothy, were married 62 years. They lived on Lake Norman and retired in Whitetop, Virginia. During their retirement in Whitetop, they made lifelong friends, which were difficult to say goodbye to when they moved to Concord, NC. George is survived by his wife and best friend, Dorothy, two of their children: daughter, Karen Masters Prince, and son, David Masters; seven grandchildren: Monique Prince, Ashley Masters, Rachel Masters, Jeremy Masters, Nicole Prince Davis, Joshua Masters, Adam Masters; two great grandchildren: Lila Masters and Simeon Prince Davis; brother, Carl Masters; sisters, Geneva Masters and Frances Bigby. George is preceded in death by a son, Ronald George Masters, an infant daughter, Terri Ann Masters, and a sister, Geraldine Bell. Services to honor George Masters will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 at Pitts Baptist Church on Pitts School Road in Concord where Mr. Masters attended. There will be a 10:00 AM visitation and an 11:00 AM service followed by a graveside service at the church.
