George Poplawski

George Benedict Poplawski, 80 years of age, of New London, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 at his home in New London. George was born January 21, 1933 in Connecticut to the late Joseph Poplawski and the late Stella Poplawski. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Father Peter Fitzgibbons, will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Our Lady of The Annunciation Catholic Church, 416 North Second Street, Albemarle, NC 28001, with full military honors being conducted. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Judith Ann Poplawski of New London; son, David Poplawski of New London; daughter, Laura Macha and husband, David of Scotland, CT; two grandsons, Jeremy Poplawski and wife, Tiffany,and Jared Macha; one brother, Richard Poplawski of CT; numerous nieces and nephews. A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Poplawski was a Sgt in the US Marine Corps and received two Purple Hearts. He was also an honorary lifetime member of the DAV, serving as Commander. In New Britain, CT, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
