George Powers

George Curtis Powers, 89, of Harrisburg, NC passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in his home in Harrisburg, NC. Curtis received a Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars while serving in WWII. Mr. Powers was born January 3, 1922 in Georgetown, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Geraldine Powers in 1996; his father, Rushell Powers and mother, Renee Moore Powers. His siblings were Erving Powers, Evangeline Rippie, Willie Olive Owens, and Tiny Cumbee. Curtis’s children were George Curtis Powers, Jr. & wife, Cleo of Charlotte, NC; Henry Powers & wife, Marie of Charlotte, NC; and Anita Powers Hasty & husband, James (Buddy) of Harrisburg, NC. He was blessed in life with 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm on Friday, July 15th at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral service will be at 11am on Saturday, July 16th in Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel of Midland with Rev. Raymond Owens officiating. At other times, the family will meet at his home at 6828 Timberwood Drive, Harrisburg, NC.
