George E. Ward, age 90 passed away at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, on March 1, 2016.
He was born on December 19, 1925 in Badin, NC, to George and Ruby Ward. George grew up in Badin, North Carolina, and graduated from Badin High School in 1943.
After high school, he served in World War II in France and Germany with the Army in A Company 309 Infantry Regiment, 78th Infantry Division and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.
George married Daisy Allen Ward in 1950 in Albemarle, NC. They were happily married for 66 years. George was a longtime member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Daisy Allen Ward of Tallahassee; children Paula Ward of Tampa, Mike Ward (wife Sherrie Ward) of Clearwater, Sheila Hammons of Atlanta; grandchildren Misty Hammons, Melissa Hammons, Mitchell Hammons all of Atlanta, Stephanie Schwartz of Clearwater and great-grandson Alexander Schwartz of Clearwater, FL; and sisters, Becky Bolick and Minnie Lou Nesbitt.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruby Ward; brothers, Charles, Lester, and Leroy Ward, and sister, Louise Russell.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home, 522 N 2nd St. Albemarle, NC. Graveside Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Park.
