Georgia Austin

Georgia Tucker Austin, 81 years of age, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Carolinas HealthCare System Main in Charlotte.

Georgia was born April 19, 1935 in Oakboro, North Carolina to the late Albert Bennett Tucker and Sophronia Tucker.
She was also preceded in death by son, Gregory Paul Austin, husband, Graham Paul Austin, whom she was married to for 56 years on December 20, 1952 and will spend their first anniversary in heaven, reunited and five brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, Monday, December 19, 2016 at Newell Baptist Church, 9115 Newell Baptist Church Road in Charlotte. The funeral service will follow in the church at 1:00 PM officiated by Rev. Scott Keith . Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include daughter, Ginger Austin Schaarschmidt and husband, Chris of Hillsborough, NC; granddaughter, Samantha Louise Schaarschmidt; sisters, Betty Connell of Charlotte and Rosemary Burnette of Monroe; nieces, Deanna Connell Winstead of Concord and Tammy Connell Robinson of Charlotte; many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Georgia retired from Belk's Department store as a secretary and was also a homemaker. Her joys in life were gardening, baking and crafts. Georgia made quilts for her family and friends and was a member of Newell Baptist Church, where she was very active by singing in the choir and was the head quilting bee for the Little Sparrows Ministry in West Virginia.
