Gerald Kenneth Miller, 90, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at his home in Albemarle.
Gerald was born April 18, 1934, in Stanly County, North Carolina to the late Samuel Clyde Miller and the late Elizabeth Bohr Miller. He was also preceded in death by his older brother Larry Miller (Yvonne) of Vienna, VA. and recently brother Raymond Miller of Albemarle, NC on February 20, 2025.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday, February 28, 2025, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Albemarle officiated by Father Fitzgibbons. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory at 2001 East Main St., Albemarle. A reception will be held downstairs in the Family Life Center at the church following the committal service.
Survivors include wife, Louise Treadway Miller of the home; son, Michael Kenneth Miller (Jessica) of Kaneohe, HI; and siblings, Tommy Miller (Josephine) of Rockville Centre, NY, Douglas Miller of Albemarle, NC, and Maureen Echols of Warner Robbins, GA.
Gerald was born and raised in New London, NC, graduating from New London High School. After serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict, he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, IN, with further studies at the Chrysler Institute in Detroit, MI.
Gerald worked at the Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in Newport News, VA, before going overseas to work for the Missile Division of Chrysler Corporation in Italy and Turkey. After completing that work, he began a lifelong career at Collins & Aikman where he rose to the position of Automotive Division Engineering Manager.
Gerald’s real passion was for Old Cars. He was a member of the Classic Thunderbird Club International, serving terms as a Director and National Vice President. Additionally, he was a Charter Member of the Tar Heel Classic Thunderbird Club, and served as a director for the Hornet’s Nest Region Antique Automobile Club in Charlotte, NC. His love for antique cars, particularly Thunderbirds and Cadillacs, was evident in the meticulous restorations he completed.
Gerald also had a love for military aircraft, especially those from the World War II and Korean War eras. He was an avid photographer, capturing thousands of moments in and around Albemarle, NC, as well as in Europe and Asia.
Gerald was the longest attending member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Albemarle, NC, having been baptized there in 1934.
