Gerald Edwin Nichols, 85, of Harrisburg, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at home with family by his side.
Gerald was born December 16, 1933 in Mecklenburg County to the late Lester and Wilma Nichols. He was also preceded in death by infant brother.
Gerald was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Bank of America after more than 30 years of service. Gerald humbly devoted his time to various civic organizations, including Frank Liske Park, Harrisburg City Council and Lions Club. He loved traveling, camping and surf-fishing, especially at Cape Lookout and Alaska with family and friends, but especially the love of his life, wife, Phyl. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Gerald will be forever loved and greatly missed.
Survivors beloved wife of 59 years, Phyllis Nichols; son, Philip Nichols and wife, Cindy, of Boiling Springs, SC; daughter, Jerri Nichols of Harrisburg; grandson, Trey Nichols and wife, Stephanie; grandson, Ryan Nichols; grandson, Taylor Nichols and wife, Mikayla; and granddaughter, Morgan Nichols.
The memorial service in celebration of Gerald's life will be on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 11:00 am at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, officiated by Rev. Tim Bostick. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
