Gladys Thomas

Carolyn Gladys Hamilton Thomas, 93 years of age passed away on December 8, 2016 at Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle, NC. She was born on September 28, 1923 in Union County (Marshville), NC to Samuel Fred and Julia Maude Thomas Hamilton. She was a graduate of Marshville High School in Marshville, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 59 years, Charlie Vann Thomas who passed away on November 26, 1999; daughter, Julia Dianne Thomas Gabriel; sisters, Cornell, Katherine and Sybil; and brothers, Therrell, Jack, and Roy.

She is survived by her brother, Edsel of Lawton, MI; devoted sons, Henry Douglas Thomas of Franklin, TN and Donald Fred Thomas of Stanfield, NC; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Gladys was a long time member of Craig Avenue ARP Church in Charlotte, NC and Love’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Stanfield, NC where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.

Hartsell Funeral Homes will be in charge of the arrangements with family visitation at their Midland, NC facility on December 14, 2016 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. EST followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. EST conducted by the Reverend Eugene Moore, pastor of Love’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will be private at Love’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Stanly County and The Uwharrie, 960 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001 in lieu of flowers.
