Grace Smith

Grace Ann Morton Smith, age 94 of 1437 Salisbury Avenue, Albemarle, NC 28001, passed away on August 22, 2010 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 on Tuesday, August 24 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. Funeral service will follow in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel, Tuesday at 11 am. Rev. Bill Thompson will officiate and burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory. Born in Stanly County on April 01, 1916, she was a daughter of the late William David Morton and the late Mary Ellen Page Morton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester W. Smith; brothers, Frank Morton, Rufus Morton, Ray Morton, Roy Morton and Greenlee Morton; sisters, Alice Morton and Molly Thompson. She is survived by her nephew, Jerry W. Thompson, Sr.; grand nephew, Jerry Thompson, Jr.; and great grand niece, Meagan Thompson, all of Albemarle, and a very special friend, Ruby Austin of Albemarle. She was a retired spinner for Wiscassett Mills and was of the Primitive Baptist faith, attending Mtn. Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
