Grady Roy Kindley, 63, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 at his home in Monroe following a year-long illness. Mr. Kindley was born March 3, 1949 in Union County to the late Ovey Roy Kindley and Ella Melissa Clontz Kindley. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Hazel Kizer and her husband, Jay Doyce Kizer. Grady grew up in the Fairview community, having graduated from Piedmont High School in 1967. He graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in history in 1971. History and politics were always important interests in his life. Besides an intense love of family, he was a lover of the outdoors and sports of all descriptions, either as a participant or a spectator. He loved the game of golf as well as hunting, fishing, and weight-lifting. His younger years had included participation in football, basketball, tennis, and handball. Grady’s love of music was evident, with country and western and rock and roll both top priorities. He never tired of watching movies, viewing and enjoying his favorites over and over. His newest hobby was wine-making. Grady spent a number of years working in banking, finance, and in the manufactured housing industry. His most recent position was as the office manager for the Employment Security Commission Job Link Center in Albemarle. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m., Thursday, at Zion United Methodist Church, 1521 Old Fish Road, Monroe. Rev. David McCauley will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at his home. He is survived by his daughters, Kara Lemon and her husband, Bill, and Krista Kindley-Martin and her wife, Terri, of Winston Salem and their mother, Patricia Helms Kindley; his brother, R. A. “Buck†Kindley and his wife, Elsie, of Monroe; his sisters, Virginia Braswell and her husband, Bengie, Faye Broadway and her husband, Charles, all of Monroe, and Dean Kindley of Tallahassee, Florida; his grandchildren, Jason, Jamie, Josh, and Zoe Lemon and Kaziah Kindley-Hayes; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
