Grover Howard Rushing, 77, of Locust, passed away Friday, August 6, 2021.
Grover was born May 30, 1944 in Concord to the late Ivy Faye Rushing and the late Sophia Barbee Rushing.
Grover proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam. Grover "Pops" was a softball coach and umpire for many years including the 1991 World Series Champion West Stanly Debs. Pops loved spending time with his family and watching his granddaughter, Gracie play softball. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends, breakfast at Wayside in Stanfield with his buddies, and was an avid Judge Judy watcher.
He was also preceded in death by his late wife, Shirley Holloman Rushing; sister, Frances Rushing Tucker; and brother, Larry Wayne Rushing.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 am - 10:45 am, Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be on Saturday at 11:00 am at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Midland officiated by Rev. Dr. Darrell Nance. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the First Baptist Cemetery at 200 Hwy. 200 North, Stanfield.
Survivors include his loving fiancée, JoAnn Huneycutt of Stanfield; daughter, Missy (Mark) Thomas of Stanfield; son, Derrick Rushing of Oakboro; granddaughter, Gracie Thomas; daughter-in-love Jennifer Smith; grandchildren-in-love, Madison and Gage Smith; and Sissy, Wanda Brafford.
