Hal Smith

Hal Rex Smith, 82, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024, at his home.

Hal was born June 27, 1942, in Union County, North Carolina to the late William Fred Smith and the late Maddie Odell Edwards Smith. 

He was also preceded in death by sister, Gloria Smith and brother, Bill Smith.

 The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle's Lefler Memorial Chapel officiated by Pastor David Snow. Casual attire is encouraged.

Survivors include wife of 63 years, Lynn Smith of the home; sons, Jim Smith (Carole) of Burlington, NC and Mike Smith (Tina) of the home; grandchildren, Brett Smith, Grant Smith (Holly), Caleb Smith (Jessica), and JoJo Kehl (Haven); great-grandchildren, Nora, Pearl, Parker, Finley, Jack, Tessa, Jude, Tallulah, Lawson, Gauge, Lynnox, and Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.

Hal was an avid woodworker his entire life. Early in his career he was a carpenter and General Contractor and in later life he enjoyed working in his shop at home building bird houses and chicken coops. He also enjoyed gardening, growing both vegetables and flowers. He loved to preserve his homegrown vegetables and share them with others.
