Harry Higgins

Harry Rico Higgins, 92 years of age, of Concord, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016. Mr. Higgins was born November 2, 1923 in Harrisburg, NC to the late Jesse Carl Higgins and Zula Elizabeth Bost Higgins of Harrisburg. He was also preceded in death by his brother USAF Lieutenant Jesse Carl Higgins, Jr. of Harrisburg.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 4815 Hwy 49 S, Harrisburg, NC 28075. The funeral service will start at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the church cemetery on the corner of Hwy 49 S and Morehead Rd.

Survivors include his wife Nell Barringer Higgins, sons Harry Rico (Rick) Higgins of Harrisburg, Jesse Carl Higgins and wife Jean Higgins of Apex, NC, daughters Corinne Higgins Cooper and husband Ralph Cooper of Lewisville, NC, Alice Higgins Smith and husband Todd Smith of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Scott Cooper and wife Erin of Roanoke, VA, Daniel Cooper of Philadelphia, PA., Austin Higgins and Seth Higgins of Apex, NC, Christopher Smith and Dylan Smith of Harrisburg; great grandson, Grayson Cooper of Roanoke, VA.

Harry was a lifelong member of Harrisburg Presbyterian Church serving in the choir, church elder and church treasurer for many years. He retired from Southern Railroad after 42 years of service as depot agent in Kannapolis, NC. He was a life time gardener, singer, fisherman, and ballroom dancer. Above all he enjoyed loving his family, church friends, and his community of friends at The Gardens of Taylor Glenn, Concord, NC.
