Hazel Townsend

Hazel Gilmer Drye Townsend, 96 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 at Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle.
Hazel was born February 16, 1920 in Stanly County to the late Robert Dolphus Drye and the late Greta Gilmer Drye.
She was also preceded in death by her loving husband in 2007, Clarence Vernell "C. V." Townsend.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Sunday at 3:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel officiated by Rev. Andy Jung. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, 1425 East Main Street, Albemarle.
Hazel was the proud mother of four sons, C. V. "Butch" (Carol) Townsend, Robert "Bob" (Penny) Townsend, both of Albemarle, Gary Townsend of Stanfield, and Mark (Donna) Townsend of Albemarle; five grandchildren, Greta Aguirre, Beth 'Townsend, Jon Mark Townsend, Amber Townsend, Summer Herlocker; and four great grandchildren.
A longtime member of First Baptist Church in Albemarle, Hazel retired from the US Postal Service. She was the very first female employed by the Albemarle Post Office.
