Hazel Underwood

Hazel Ruth Greene Underwood, 93, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017 at her home.

Hazel was born September 22, 1923 in Stanly County to the late Walter Jackson Greene and the late Ida Melissa Mauldin Greene. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

The family will receive friends from 12pm - 1pm on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 1pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. John Petry. The burial will be in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Vernon Collie Underwood of the home; son, Don Underwood and wife Joan of Albemarle; daughter, Susan Brooks and husband Danny of Stanfield; sister, Jewel Whitley of Oakboro; grandsons, Ben Underwood and wife Lauren of Locust, John Underwood and wife Kristen of Oakboro, Tim Brooks and wife Anna of Concord, Elliot Brooks and wife Kellyn of New London; nine great-grandchildren; family friend and caregiver, Sue Watson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
