Hartsell Funeral Home Concord (704)786-1161 PO Box 367 Concord, NC 28026 Helen Grace Melvin Caskey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, 82, went home to Heaven on Monday, April 19, 2010. A visitation will be held at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church in the fellowship hall Wednesday from 12:30 – 1:30. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2pm at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Muse officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family meeting place will be the residence at 9808 Chestnut Hills Road, Harrisburg. The family will greet friends there on Tuesday from 6 – 8pm. Born on February 15, 1928 in Fayetteville, to the late Leonidas Gray and Lela McMillan Melvin. She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, John R. Caskey, brother, Leonidas Gray Melvin, Jr., and brother in law, Jim Massengill. She is survived by daughter, Catherine Grace Caskey Baker and husband Kerry of Charlotte, son, James Michael Caskey and wife Beth of Matthews, brother, Neil McMillan Melvin and wife Betty of Pinehurst and their two children, sister, Patricia Ann Melvin Massengill of Lake Lure and her child, sister in law, Martha Melvin of Harrisburg and her four children, grandchildren, Nathan Caskey and wife Grace, Matthew Baker, Hope Caskey, Kyle Baker, Brian Baker, and Grace E. Caskey, great grandchildren, John M. Caskey and Noah C. Caskey. She is also survived by dear friends and wonderful neighbors. Helen lovingly served the Lord at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church where she was on various committees and a member of the choir, but she grew up at Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone where she participated in basketball and swimming. She met her beloved husband John while attending ASU. She annually met with her friends from West End High School, all of which she held as close, personal friends. She loved to garden and to be outdoors. She taught third grade for 30 years and retired from Idlewild Elementary School in 1986. She will be missed, loved, and remembered by all, forever.
