Helen Thomas Lefler passed away October 20, 2014, at St. Andrews Living Center where she had made her home for the last seven years.

Born December 8, 1919 in Stanly County to Ada Austin Thomas and John Clifton Thomas.

The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

The funeral service will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 1:00pm. Burial will follow the funeral service at Oakwood Cemetery.

During her childhood she grew up in Oakboro and later moved with her family to Concord. There she met and married Leonard “Link” Lefler in May of 1940. They had one daughter. Her husband went to be with the Lord on April of 1973.

In earlier years she was employed with Carmon Mills and worked at “The Smart Shop” in downtown Concord. Other than that she was always a homemaker and enjoyed staying at home. She loved working in her yard and growing pretty flowers. She was always a strong person and suffered from no sickness.

She was a charter member of Center Methodist Church and attended there until she was unable to go. She and her husband were instrumental in opening this church in the 50”s that had been closed until then. She was the last of the original living charter members.

She is survived by her only daughter, Brenda Lefler Furr and husband Ray. Grandson Jeffrey Ray Furr and wife Lisa. Great-Granddaugher Laura Lynn Furr Huie and husband Heath. Great-Grandson “Josh” Ray Furr. Great-Great-Grandson, “Hutch” Shane Huie.

She is survived by one brother, Harold D. Thomas and wife Jean. Deceased brothers, J. B. Thomas, C. Boyd Thomas, Herman H. Thomas, and one sister Reba Thomas Brown.

She leaves behind a loyal friend, Oscar Ritchie, who they always had fun and enjoyed each others company.
