Helen Newton

Helen D. Newton, 98, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025.

Helen was born September 17, 1926, in Albemarle, North Carolina to the late Fred Roosevelt Dennis and the late Mary Boyd Dennis. She was also preceded in death by husband, Francis Albert "Jack" Newton and sister, Claudine Morris.

Helen worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at a defense factory in New Jersey during WWII. She was a lifetime member of Porter Baptist Church where she served as church clerk for many years. Prior to her passing, she was the oldest living member of the church.  Helen was a retired seamstress from the textiles industry. In recent years her favorite pastime was doing word search puzzles.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm- 1:45pm on Saturday April 12, 2025, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle, 522 N. 2nd Street, Albemarle, NC 28001. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in Hartsell Funeral Home Lefler Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Kinney Wallace. Burial will follow at the Porter Baptist Church Cemetery at 16562A US 52 South, Norwood.

Survivors include son, Darrell (Patsy) Newton of Germanton, NC, daughter, Judy (John) Skipper of Anderson, SC, daughter, Debbie (Kim) Perry of Burlington, NC, grandsons, Chris (Karla) Newton, Chad (Jamie) Newton, Matthew (Kristin) Perry, Mark (Holly) Perry, Chandler (Emily) Skipper, great-children, Hannah, Jack, Luke, Evan, and Makena Newton, Noah, Skylar and Emerson Perry, John Chandler, Jr. and Declan Skipper, and four great-great children Ryan, Remi, Rowan, and Max.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Porter Baptist Church.
