She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jimmy Shue in 2006. Also preceding her were her father, Paul Harrington Sr., brother, Paul Harrington Jr., sister, Dianne Robinson and her much beloved uncle and aunt, James and Nell Hopkins, whom she regarded as second parents. This training was put to good use while raising her girls. Her compassionate nature was an inspiration to her family, friends and patients. She was an active volunteer in her children's schools in the PTA and a constant "Grade Mother". A member of Sharon Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a good murder mystery, always claiming she knew "who done it" from the start. Happiest times were spent with her beloved grandchildren, especially at her favorite place, the beach. The family expresses much gratitude to Hospice, with special thanks to Nikki Burris, Keegan McCombs, Bobbi Jo McPhail, Joy Burris and Bryan Hovey. Also to neighbors Christina and Nikki McCurry and her lifelong friend, Ann Sifford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Cabarrus County or to the charity of one's choice.
