Helen Smith

Helen Elaine Barringer Smith, 86 years of age, of New London, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 at her home. Helen was born April 24, 1927 in Stanly County to the late Roy Glen Barringer and the late Margie Pauline Thompson Barringer . She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin Smith, Sr.; and sons, James Edwin Smith, Jr. and Gary Alton Smith. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, October 7, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Bethel United Methodist Church in New London, with Rev. Darrell Thompson officiating. She will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be meeting at the home. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Sasser and husband Mark of New London; sister, Ruth Brisco and husband John of New London; daughter-in-law, Judy Smith of Albemarle; and five grandchildren.
