Helen Yow

Helen Joyce Dennis Yow, age 83, of Stanfield, was called home to be with the Lord on October 18, 2015, at the Harris Hospice at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte surrounded by her family.

Helen was born on December 15, 1931 to her proud parents J. W. Dennis, Sr. and Essie Mullis Dennis in Mecklenburg County. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings, J.W. "Jay" Dennis, Jr., Frances Kindley, Buck Dennis, Martha Watson, Shirley Jordan and Charles Lee Dennis.

Helen worked in the furniture industry for Kroehler Furniture Company and other upholstery projects with her husband until she became disabled with rheumatoid arthritis. She loved to fish, especially at Holden Beach, and spend time with her family.

She was a member of Loves Grove United Methodist Church where she was nurtured in her faith and reared her children. She was a member of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Clayton Yow, of the home; son, James and wife, Susan of Albemarle; daughters, Joyce Kimrey and husband, Tommy of Albemarle and Janie Yow of Stanfield and her fiancée, Paul Williams of Concord. She is survived by one grandson, Jonathan Yow and wife, Erin of Mathews; and six granddaughters, April Travis and husband, Chris of Waxhaw, Jennifer Hamilton and husband, Brad of Smithfield, Mary Barbee and husband, Kevin of Locust, Michelle Sheffield and husband, Matt of Oakboro, Tammy Kimrey of Albemarle, and Brooke Huneycutt and special friend, Richie Meadows of Oakboro. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, Abigail and Samantha Yow, Madelyn, Rachel and Emily Travis, Elijah and Noah Sheffield, Natalie and Chase Hamilton, and Barret and Caroline Barbee. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Bunny Dennis Folmsee, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:45 pm, Wednesday, October 21, 2015 in the fellowship hall of Loves Grove United Methodist Church at 4360 Polk Ford Road, Stanfield. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Jim White and Rev. Coy Blackmon. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home.
