Helen Virginia Huneycutt

March 7, 1941 — January 5, 2023

Locust

Helen Virginia Griffin Huneycutt, 81, of Locust, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 7, 1941, in Union County to the late Herman Roscoe Griffin and Hazel Virginia Kiker Griffin. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry Dickson Huneycutt; her three brothers, Buck Griffin, Larry Griffin, and J.T. Griffin; her three sisters Ruby Griffin, Evelyn Hatley, and Freddie Fink; and her daughter-in-law Christie Huneycutt.

Helen worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at Locust Elementary School until she retired.

She was a strong woman who was never idle and could often run circles around her children and grandchildren in the yard. She enjoyed watching birds and had record numbers of hummingbirds in her yard year after year. She loved working in her yard and garden, watching Westerns and spending time with family. Helen was a kind, gentle caretaker who loved to cook and felt each meal wasn’t complete without dessert. She was the best Mom, Mawmaw, and Great Granny.

Helen was a wonderful, God-fearing woman and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her son Scott Huneycutt, daughter Dianne Earnhardt and husband Steve, and son Jerry Huneycutt and wife Lisa Delane; grandchildren, Hannah Pless and husband Chris, Kayla Marvin and husband James, Adam Huneycutt, Jared Huneycutt, Cameron Huneycutt, Cole Earnhardt and wife Anna, Grayson Huneycutt, William Putnam, Walter Putnam, and Weston Putnam; great-grandchildren, Caden, Hadley, and baby girl Pless, Alyssa and Analeise Marvin, and Asher Huneycutt; brother-in-law, Robert Huneycutt and wife Nancy; sister-in-law, Clara Jewel Reid and husband Grayson, and sisters-in-law, Hilda Huneycutt and Phyllis Griffin; as well as many extended nieces and nephews.

The Huneycutt family would like to extend a special thanks to Helen's caring neighbors and to Hospice of Stanly & The Uwharrie for their special care.

On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, the family will receive friends at 2pm at First Baptist Church of Locust followed by a graveside service at 3pm in the church cemetery.
