Henry Wilson Tarlton, 96 years of age, of Oakboro, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 at his home.

Wilson was born December 26, 1919 in Union County to the late William Tarlton and the late Dora Williams Tarlton. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Almond; brothers, Oscar, Boyce, and Charles Tarlton; and sisters, Odell Edwards, and Alma Smith.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Oakboro fellowship hall, 322 N. Main St., Oakboro. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Dr. Terrell Watts and Rev. Chip Alsobrooks. The burial will be at the Oakboro Cemetery, 1397 North Main Street, Oakboro. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 76 years, Sarah Aline Hahn Tarlton of the home; daughter, Pam (Mike) Wellons of Mooresville; son-in-law, Newell Almond of Ladson, SC; four grandchildren, Mitchell Almond of Ladson, SC, Kenny (Kam) Almond of Summerville, SC, Brant (Jaci) Wellons of Fuquay-Varina, and Andrew (Joey McAteer) Davis of Jamaica Plain, MA; five great-grandchildren, JR Almond, Cameron Almond, Kelsey Almond Chase, Jackson Wellons, and Grant Wellons; brothers, Raeford (Jesse) Tarlton, Don (Joan) Tarlton; sisters, Rachel Blackmon, and LaNelle (Maurice) Richardson, all of Monroe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilson was a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother. He selflessly cherished his wife, Aline, who, after God, was the most important person in his life. They had a true love story. Wilson was a strong leader in the community with his work at the Oakboro Fire Department and First Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member. He set an example and lived by his faith. He could be counted on to always be the peacemaker. Wilson also had a passion for fishing, yard work, and gardening.
