Herbert Harwood

Herbert Ray Harwood, 90, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Atrium Health Stanly in Albemarle.

Mr. Harwood was born March 31, 1928 in Stanly County to the late Daniel Herbert and the late Dorothy Jane Harwood. He was also preceded in death by a beloved son, Eddie D. Harwood; brothers, Elbert Harwood and Richard Harwood; and sister, Evelyn Poplin.

Ray was a member of Plyler Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War which he enjoyed talking about. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing to the family. Ray loved spending time with his family sharing a lot of memories. He worked at Wiscassett Mills, Lorch Plumbing and Metal Forge where he retired.  He was looking forward to the day he would arrive in Heaven to meet Jesus.

The family will receive friends from 2:00PM - 2:45PM, Sunday, November 18, 2018 Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The service will follow at 3:00PM in the Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel officiated by Rev. David Hatley. Burial will follow the service at Plyler Baptist Church Cemetery in Albemarle.

Survivors include wife of 66 years, Helen Lorch Harwood (the love of his life); son, Donnie E. Harwood (Rhonda) of Locust; 3 very special grandchildren, Jennifer Harwood (Danny), Matthew Harwood (Lauren) and Heather Harwood, two great granddaughters, Saylor and Olivia Harwood; and sister, Betty Vanhoy.
