Herman Lee Barringer, Sr., age 93, of Concord, formerly of 5025 Rocky River Road passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Universal Healthcare at 11:30 am. Funeral will be 2:00 PM Sunday at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Concord, where he was a member. Rev. Ray Rippy will officiate. Interment will be at West Concord Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Saturday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. Born June 20, 1916 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late John David and Cora Graham Barringer. He was a lifelong resident of this area and retired from Cannon Mills, Plant #6 weave room after 42 years of service in 1979. He also raised beef cattle. He enjoyed getting together with family and friends for food, fellowship and making music. He played guitar with a Country Music Band in 1941. He also played the fiddle and used this God-given talent by playing at Roberta Baptist Church where he was a former member, Sunday school teacher, and deacon. He spent 6 months in the Army Infantry during WW II. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Lanny Barringer and his beloved wife, Rosa Cato Barringer of 68 years when she died November 27, 2004. Survivors include one son, Herman "Humpy" Barringer, Jr. and wife Betty of Concord; one daughter, Virginia Anne Yates and husband Robert of Concord; grandchildren, Anthony Yates and wife Patti of Harrisburg, Kathy Giddings and husband Denny of Harrisburg, Jerry Barringer and wife Tonya of China Grove and Jennifer Almond and husband Lance of China Grove; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Earl, Doc and Joe Barringer of Concord, and Ray Barringer and wife Maxine of Lamesa, TX; three sisters, Fannie Blackwelder of Concord, Nell Higgins and husband Harry of Concord and Norma Jean Clements of Hillsboro; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Carillon Alzheimer Unit, staff and nurses at CMC-Northeast, Universal Heathcare Center, Hospice of Cabarrus County for their special care during the past 3 months and his personal care physician, Dr. Ha and staff at Cabarrus Family Physicians in Harrisburg.
