Homer Fess Black, 96 years of age, of Concord, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at home in Concord.
Fess was born March 26, 1918 in Midland, NC to the late William Flowe Black and Martha Dora Black. He was also preceded in death by daughter, Beverly Horton; grandson, Eric Horton, and great-grandson, David Halperin
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Concord for 62 years, where he was the oldest living member. He was also a member of Stokes Masonic Lodge #32. He was a truck driver for Akers Motor Lines for 23 years, and completed his retirement with Blythe Construction Co.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home's chapel in Concord officiated by Rev. Carrie Bishop. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, where graveside Masonic Rites will be conducted.
Survivors include wife of 71 years, Mary Barger Black of Concord, NC; daughter, Marian (Tom) Little of Mooresville, NC; daughter, Barbara Yow of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Lynn Goode, Roxanne (Brad) Stroud, Amy (Andrew) Giraldo, Laura (Ken) Halperin; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Katherine, Erin, Josey, Sara, and Aiden; son-in-law, Roger Horton.
