Horace Parker Miller, 84 years of age, of New London, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, March 4, at Kendall's Baptist Church, where he was a long-time member. Rev. Christian Herring will officiate. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm.

Born September 11, 1931, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Charlie Augustus Miller and Mary Florence Treece Miller. He graduated from New London High School in 1949 and was in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954.

He was a USDA inspector for 34 years and after retirement worked at Winn-Dixie and Kendall Valley Elementary School.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #73 and a lifetime member of the Stanly County Shrine Club.

He was preceded in death by a daughter , Emma Miller Warden ( Clark ), four brothers and six sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Burris Miller; a daughter Mary Miller Mason (Jonathan ) of Auckland, New Zealand; and three grandchildren - Parker Warden and Emma and Phebe Mason.Horace is also survived by a sister, Jessie "Diddle" Broughton, of New London.
