Howell Smith

Howell "Clayton" Smith, 82, of Albemarle, NC, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, September 30, 2017 at Carolinas HealthCare System Stanly with his family by his side.

Mr. Smith was born August 6, 1935, in Oakboro, NC to the late Millard M. and Rettie H. (Brattain) Smith. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters and 7 brothers.

On March 31, 1957 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Albemarle, NC where he served as a Deacon he married his loving wife of 60 years, the former Carol Lynne (Price) Smith who survives.

Other survivors include his devoted daughter, Debra Davis of Norwood; a brother, Marcus (Louise) Smith of Albuquerque, NM; a sister, Louise (Bud) Barbee of Locust, and his very best friend, his grandson, Bryan J. Thompson of Albemarle, and his dog, Riley.

The family will receive guests on Monday, October 2, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1002 Wiscasset Street, Albemarle, NC with Rev. Wayne Richardson and Rev. Reese English officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle.

Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mr. Smith to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 2026, Albemarle, NC 28002.

Clayton will be forever missed by his loving and devoted family and many friends. May God grant him eternal rest.
