Hoyle Burgess

Hoyle Lentz Burgess, age 84 of Oakboro, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at his home. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Saturday, February 4 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 5 at 2:00 PM in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Chip Alsobrooks. Burial will follow at Smith’s Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Mr. Burgess was born in Stanly County on August 14, 1927, to the late Lonnie Richard Burgess and the late Dorothy Mae Tucker Burgess. He is also preceded in death by his devoted wife, Alma Jean Hagler Burgess, in 2009; one brother, Kent Burgess and one sister, Joyce Burgess. He is survived by three sons, Larry Burgess and his wife Sherrie, Philip Burgess and his wife Ann, all of Oakboro, David Burgess and his wife Karen of Albemarle; one daughter, Donna Burgess of Oakboro; one brother, Doug Burgess of Oakboro; three sisters, Lois Strickland of Orangeburg, SC, Odean Allen of Thomasville and Jeanette Huneycutt of Albemarle; seven grandchildren, Carla Smith, James Honohan, Summer Mitchell, Meghan Burgess, Breanna Honohan, Brooke Burgess and Janson Burgess; two great-grandchildren, Braden Smith and Cooper Smith. Memorials may be made to Smith’s Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Hwy 138, Oakboro, NC 28129. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Burgess family.
