Hubert Poplin

Hubert J. Poplin, 82, of New London, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at his home. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. At other times the family will meet at his home. The funeral service will be in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Tony Hopkins and Rev. Frank Thompson will officiate and the burial will follow in Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, Albemarle. Born February 12, 1930 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Cecil Earn Poplin and the late Attie Almond Poplin. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Irene Mozelle Bost Poplin in 1994 and a son, James Poplin in 2008. He is survived by his second wife, Lucille Huneycutt Smith Poplin of the home; sons, David Poplin and Kenneth Poplin, both of New London; daughter Betty Eury of Oakboro; stepchildren, Nancy Bowers of Richfield, Gail Mason of Albemarle and Terry Lee Smith of New London; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mr. Poplin served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 and was a member of Prospect Baptist Church. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 348 for over 60 years. Memorials may be made to New Hope Mission Baptist Church, 150 South Morrow Road, Albemarle, NC 28001, C/O Betty Furr. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the family.
