Huma Kadijatu Sillah Johnson, 63, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at Harris Hospice Unit, Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
On March 7, 1958, Huma was born at Princess Christian Maternity Hospital in Freetown, Sierra Leone, to the late Amara Sillah and the late Kadijatu Conteh. Her parents passed, and was raised by Fatu Sillah Tucker and Ernest Pyne Caulker from 1960 through highschool with her niece Emma Williams.
Huma attended Samaria Primary School and Methodist Girls High Secondary School. It was not common in the family for women to go to school, but she was so smart that the family decided she should go to school. She was a very promising and talented student in the nursing school. She earned her certificate of nursing in 1977.
In 1982, Huma came to America where she first lived in Tacoma Park, MD. She was a department manager for housekeeping at a hotel where she explored her passion for design. You would see throughout her home she continued to exercise her passion for staging and decor.
Huma moved to Charlotte, NC in 1992 where she had her children by ‘94 and ‘95. She enjoyed being a stay at home mom as her desire was always to have kids. Huma received her nursing certificate in the states by 1997 and loved working as an LPN for the last 20+ years being able to care for people. Her last place of employment was at Lake Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Indian Trail, NC.
Most of all, Huma was a beautiful, kind, caring, sassy, and loving woman of god. Her favorite pastime was cooking. She was known to live in the kitchen then share her amazing dishes with those around her. When she was not cooking, she was gardening, dancing, or enjoying the word of God. Huma's memory will forever be cherished. Although she was never the loudest in the room, she always made a great impression on everyone she met. She will be greatly missed and loved until.
