Ida Hooks Thomas, 88 years of age, of Midland, passed away Friday, December 9, 2016 at her residence in Midland.

Ida was born May 4, 1928 in Cabarrus County to the late Fred Hooks and the late Mary Jane Hooks. She was also preceded in death by husband, Houston George Thomas, Sr.; a great granddaughter; and six brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, December 12, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 1:00 pm at Clear Creek Baptist Church in Charlotte officiated by Rev. Homer Murdock and Rev. Donald Lisk. Burial will follow at the Clear Creek Church Cemetery, 9015 Ferguson Rd., Charlotte, NC 28227.

Survivors include sons, George (Belinda) Thomas of Midland; David (Brenda) Thomas of Stanfield; daughter, Ara Jane Thornton of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ida loved her family dearly. She always wanted to "crack" open a watermelon with all who would sit under the shade tree and eat it with her. Ida loved the outdoors. She was an avid gardener. She loved growing her own plants and flowers. She often shared the flowers she grew with others. Ida enjoyed spending time fishing on her pond, many days from sun up till sun down. Fishing brought her a great deal of pleasure.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Angie Hastings and Wanda McCarver. Their compassionate and loving care was beyond measure. We are so very blessed to have had their guidance and help during this time in Mom's life.
