Ira Helms

Ira Eugene “Gene” Helms, 81, of Locust, NC, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011, in Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast, Concord, NC. Mr. Helms was born June 28, 1929, in Cabarrus County. He was preceded in death by his father, William Kron Helms; mother, Mary Crayton Helms; and brother, Russell Helms. He was an aircraft engine mechanic in the U. S. Navy and continued by working on autos as a motor mechanic and body work. The visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. The funeral will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Locust Presbyterian, where he was a member, with a 30 minute state. Rev. Mack Sigmon will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include sisters, Billy Honeycutt of Stanfield, and Hyacinth Jenkins of Winston Salem.
