Ira Lee Taylor, 95 years of age, of Harrisburg, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Carillon Assisted Living in Harrisburg, NC . Mr. Taylor was born January 28, 1918 to the late Ira and Macie Taylor. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Essie Rivenbark Taylor as well as his brother, Earl Cochran Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a World War II veteran of the US Army serving with the Headquarters Battery 4th Division Artillery. He was proud that he was able to participate at D-Day on June 6, 1944. He was also a proud NC State graduate. Mr. Taylor was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening. He was a life-time member of Harrisburg Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until 2:00pm on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church, 4815 North Carolina Hwy 29, Harrisburg, NC. The funeral service will follow on Sunday at 2:00pm in Harrisburg Presbyterian Church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Tim Bostick. Burial will be held at the Harrisburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the National Honor Guard. He is survived by his daughter, Roxie Gail Taylor of Greenwood, SC; a son, Ira Lee Taylor Jr. of Kannapolis, NC; two brothers, Roy Mitchell Taylor of Virginia Beach, VA, and James Walter "Burr" Taylor and wife Jenna Sue of Harrisburg, NC. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Avenue, Suite 100, Charlotte, NC and to Harrisburg Presbyterian Church, 220 Oakley Drive, Harrisburg, NC 28075. Hartsell Funeral Home is serving the Taylor family.
