Irene Fink Cope, 90, of Concord passed away on Friday, October 8, 2010 at St. Andrews Living Center. She was born on February 6, 1920 in Cabarrus County to the late James Harper Fink and Lillie Hartsell Fink. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord on Sunday, October 10, 2010 from 1:00 until 1:45 pm. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel with Rev. Merrill Perkins officiating. Burial will be Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. Irene graduated as valedictorian from Harrisburg High School in 1937. She was a member of Ann Street United Methodist Church for over 65 years, where she worked in the children’s department for 20 years and was active in the United Methodist Women, where she served as president, secretary, and treasurer. She retired from Northwest Cabarrus High School in 1982 as a food service employee. She previously worked at Hugh Gray Hosiery Mill as a full fashion seamer and pre boarder. She had also worked as a registrar at voting precinct #2 for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert Lee Cope Sr., who passed away in 1997 and a sister, Dorothy Fink. She is survived by son, Robert L. Cope Jr. and wife, Judith, of Concord; daughter, Judy Cope Sachs and husband, Philip, of Belleair, FL; brothers, Hartsell and Norman Fink, of Mt. Pleasant; grandson, Robert L. Cope III and wife, Ripple; and great grandson, Ajay Cope, all of Fullerton, CA. Memorials may be made to Ann Street United Methodist Church, 335 Ann Street NW, Concord, NC 28025 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
