Irene Morton

Irene Herrin Morton, age 86 of 24216 Endy Road, Albemarle, passed away, Friday, November 19, 2010 at Stanly Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle on Sunday from 6 to 8. At other times the family will meet at the home of her daughter, Sonja Harrington, 24006 Old Aquadale Road, Albemarle. The funeral service will be at Canton Baptist Church, where she was a member, on Monday at 2 PM. There will be a 30 minute state. Rev. Gary Hunsucker and Rev. Ferrell Shimpock will officiate. The burial will be at Canton Baptist Church Cemetery. Born May 1, 1924 in Stanly County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Clay Herrin, Sr. and the late Esther Lee Lowder Herrin. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Serena Morton. She was a retired machine operator for Federal Pacific. She is survived by her son, Jerry Morton and wife Nellie of Abbeyville, SC; daughters, Venita Forbes and husband Jim and Sonja Harrington and husband Doug, all of Albemarle; grandchildren, Dreama Mackie, Kevin Morton, Michael Harrington and Jason Harrington; brothers, Melvin Herrin and wife Frances of Charlotte and Ernest Herrin, Jr. and wife Ann of Albemarle; sister, Betty Burris of Albemarle; 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
