Iven Austin

Iven Douglas Austin, 69 years of age, of Marshville, NC passed away Friday, September 22, 2017.

Iven was born October 9, 1947 in New Salem, NC to the late Fulton Lee Roy Austin and the late Eliza Ann Austin.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Steven Roy Austin.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sybil Austin of Marshville, NC; daughter, Rebecca Austin Hickey and husband Michael of Marshville, NC; daughter Meagan Rick of the home; sister, Maureen Harvell of Locust, NC; sister, Marilee Love of Locust, NC; grandsons Jordan Sikes and Jamie Woodell; and great granddaughters Chloe Bryant and Cheyanne Drye.

Iven proudly served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969. He worked for the Department of Transportation for eighteen years before retiring in 2012. Iven loved bluegrass music and being outside working in his garden. He was a plain spoken man that lived a simple life. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Monday, September 25, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will follow at 3:00pm at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel of Midland officiated by Rev. Gene Hopkins and Rev. John Miller. Burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Marshville on October 9th, 2017. The family will be gathering at the home at other times.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Austin family.
