J Burris

J.D. Burris, 87, of Albemarle, NC passed away on February 23, 2011 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 26 from 2-4 PM at Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will meet at his home, 20425 Efird Road, Albemarle, NC. A service will follow at 4 PM in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jeff Whitecotton will officiate the services. Mr. Burris was born in Stanly County on September 17, 1923 to the late Martin and Florence Burris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Caroleen Lefler Burris; daughter Barbara Lefler Dennis; infant son, Johnnie Burris; brothers, Brady, Grady, and Arthur Lee Burris; sisters, Elsie Burris, Retty Stoker, Lillie Burris, Bess Barringer, Evelyn Eudy, Emma Eudy, Willie Burris, Nola Helms. He was a 1943 graduate of Ridgecrest High School and was retired from C&A of Norwood. He was an avid square dancer and had a love for the outdoors and camping. Mr. Burris is survived by his daughters, Katrina Hathcock and husband Joel of Albemarle, Linda Smith and husband Timothy of Salisbury; son, Jerry Burris and wife Shelia of Charlotte; grandchildren, Derek & Cary Hathcock, Keilah McManus, James, Jeremy & Kayla Smith, David Dennis, Elisabeth Moreno, Melissa Gail Hathcock, Misty Bruch; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granchild. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Burris family.
