Jack Smith

Jack Samuel Smith, 90, of Harrisburg NC, transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the family home surrounded by loved ones.

Jack was born January 3, 1932, in Asheville NC to the late Carl Everett and Jessie Bell Cole Smith.  He was also preceded in death by nine siblings.

Jack was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Service Star, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal. He was an original and lifetime member of Providence Baptist Church.  He worked in the trucking industry for many years but the most important thing in his life was family. He was an avid supporter of his children and grandchildren in any kind of youth league or school sports.  Jack loved his morning coffee, pier fishing at the beach, spending time with his friends at Hardee's, and sharing meals with family and friends at Harrisburg Family Restaurant.  His quick wit, unique sense of humor, and dedication to all he loved will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Virginia Shipman Smith; son, David Alan (Wanda) Smith of Harrisburg; son, Phillip Edward (Dawn) Smith of Harrisburg; son, Jeffrey Dean (Tonda) Smith of Harrisburg; brother, Paul (Frankie) Smith of Fairview; granddaughter, Jennifer Smith of Marion; grandson, Nick Smith of Midland; granddaughter, Jessica Smith of Harrisburg; grandson, Jacob Smith of Harrisburg; granddaughter, Kristen (Brian) Calloway of Sherrills Ford;  grandson, Brad (Megan) Smith of Harrisburg; grandson, Ben (Shelby) Smith of Harrisburg; great-grandson, Jackson Thompson of Marion; great-grandson, Jameson Thompson of Marion; great-granddaughter, Zoey Smith of Harrisburg; great-grandson, Winston Smith of Harrisburg; great-granddaughter, Grace Smith of Harrisburg; and great-granddaughter, Ginny Smith of Harrisburg.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:45 pm, Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Providence Baptist Church, Harrisburg. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Rody Carland.  Burial with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Harrisburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local hospice.
