Jackie Locklear

Mr. Jackie Ray Locklear departed this earth for Gods warm embrace on January 27, 2021 peacefully surrounded by his children.

Born in a Christian household August 19th, 1938 in Pembroke NC to Bracy and Ruby Locklear, Jack was the oldest of five children all of whom he loved dearly.  After graduating Pembroke State with a BS in Chemistry he was selected for Naval OCS where he was commissioned as an Ensign in 1960, surface warfare, ship handler. During his early campaign with the Navy while traveling back home from Norfolk, he met and fell in love with Ms. Patsy Sampson of Pembroke. After many love letters Ms. Patsy finally agreed and they were married April 2nd, 1966.  Now a family man, Jack shifted from active duty to the Naval reserve to begin his career in the textile industry. After a brief move to Charlotte, Jack and Pat settled in Concord in 1970 where they were blessed with three children.   With an earnest intellectual curiosity that he shared with his family, Jack was pleased to pass on his love of life, giving, teaching and learning. He placed a high value on the serious things in life.  Family. Faith. Scholarship.  Jack was preceded in death by his brother Bryon and sister Phyllis.

Jack is survived by his wife Pat of 54 years; brothers Nick Locklear of Pembroke NC, and Christopher Locklear of Hope Hills NC; daughter Candace Locklear, granddaughter Clara Mae Locklear Fuller both of Oakland, CA; son Jon and wife Beth and their daughters Caroline and Sarah Kate of Concord and son Quinton of the homestead with his special friend Tara and Tanner Bengle; and many other relatives and dear friends throughout the land.

We will miss his humor, wit and breakfast creations that usually included sausage and jalapeños.  Our faithful Christian servant soldiers on with Christ by his side.

The family will have a graveside service this Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 11 am at Lumbee Memorial Cemetery in Pembroke NC.

A memorial service and celebration of life at the family’s church Forest Hill United Methodist will be planned for a future date.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you hug your loved ones and enjoy the simple things in life.
